We are seeking an exceptional Packaging Designer with extensive experience in brand/style guide creation, development and packaging design to help take our private label brands to the next level within Smyths Toys innovative in-house creative team. You must be a detail-oriented, deadline-driven self-starter who can juggle multiple projects and collaborate across teams. This role is located at our Head Office in Galway. The Packaging Designer will be responsible for designing and developing packaging structures & graphics (including but not limited to individual items, Boxes, POP/displays, clamshells/blisters, etc.) from concept to completion. They will also be responsible for creating (re-sizing & adjusting) packaging design, die-lines, internal trays & support elements that display products well, are cost effective and structurally sound. Main responsibilities: Creation of new packaging for plastic based, wooden & electric toys, such as building bricks, play sets, track sets, doll houses and more The designer will need to be able to carry out typography manipulation, composition, colour manipulation and packaging layout. Creation of environment, illustration and rendering of the toys and ensuring they look perfect! Presenting each product in the best way possible and showing what makes them fun, entertaining & visually appealing. What we’re looking for: An expert understanding of up to date trends in packaging and branding. A keen eye for visual layout. Ability to develop concepts and designs for packaging across several private label brands. Experience in Adobe Creative Suite (emphasis on Illustrator & Photoshop. Someone who can work on creative initiatives from concept to completion (die-lines, renderings, mocks, print production, etc.) and who can create accurate production files along with comprehensive brand guidelines (deliver all phases of work within established packaging timelines. Ability to own the big strategies but also to dive into the details. Someone who can collaborate with and inspire business, product and marketing leads. The ability to create digital and/or physical mock-ups. Pixel-perfect attention to detail. Awareness of design, fashion, beauty, retail, social media and lifestyle trends. Ability to manage multiple projects in fast paced and highly demanding environment. Prior experience with commercial & toy packaging preferred but not required. Ability to create 3D renderings & illustration of products, digital mock-ups or packaging visualisation for concept approval and salespresentation. Abilityto create and maintain internal packaging material specification standards as well as produce graphic artwork for packaging components (including instruction manuals, packaging, labels, etc.) Requirements. A strong portfolio showcasing real work and your design process ( must include several packaging samples. Minimum 3 years packaging design experience in consumer products or design agency. Consumer goods/ toy industry experience is a plus! BS in Packaging Design Science, Graphic Design, Industrial Design or a related degree from an accredited college or university or 5 years of experience. Strong visual design skills and background designing for systems (style guides, design patterns.
